Why Join a Support Group?

If you are newly bereaved, a group can give you hope.  You will meet others who have had similar losses and survived.  You can share insights and ideas.  You will be with people who have lived through and understand what you're experiencing.

If it has been awhile since your loss you might still remember the confusion and despair of those early months.  Battle scars and all, you have survived and learned, and you can help the newly bereaved.  Besides, there might still be things you want to discuss about your own loss.

About a Bereavement Group

Meetings begin with members introducing themselves.  The needs of the group at each meeting determine what will be discussed -- for example, anger, guilt, or dealing with the holidays.  A member of the group might ask for the group's insight on a particular issue.
Each meeting, then, is different.  It is suggested that new members attend at least three meetings before deciding whether a support group is right for them.
There is no pressure to participate in the discussion.  Some members might want to just listen.
Confidentiality is strictly maintained.  Members of the group are honor-bound to keep what happens in the group in the group.
